The Secret Debunked!

November 20, 2007

Well – of course not. Just a catchy headline… ;-)

Yet: there is too much of half-assed “truth” in “The Secret”, too much hypno-talk of the not-so-nice kind, too much that will mislead (and by failure frustrate) the “average person” that “TheSecret” pretends to help.

The two main problems in short, besides the questionable focus on cars and houses and other “heavy matter”:

  • just “creating” and waiting won’t do. Unless you are a mega-guru who has spent 20 years naked in the snow of the mountains meditating and really becoming aware of the one-ness of all… create, visualize – and then follow the hints. DO. ACT. You have programmed YOUR mind, and maybe a bit of the universe, – but for your own sake: act. Stop the wannabe magic, get real. Or if doing magic: learn. Mature. It is a long way getting your mind up to heights where it can truly shape the universe…
  • second flaw: most people are simply not able to visualize. Or use wrong technics. So their “visualizing” and “manifesting” is plain daydreaming and “wishful thinking”. If you want to create (either by “magic” or – more reliably – by your own deeds), learn how to visualize. Practice. Use mindmachines or brainwave CDs to get you into a “visual” state, if you see nothing but slightly flickering blackness… The power of your visual mind is incredible – but it has to be developed for most of us…

Keep these two in mind when playing with “The Secret”. Will help to avoid the frustration after the one-time “instant enlightenment pill” did not work. And will help you to achieve what you really want.

Back to the headline: Bill Harris, inventor of Holosync, founder of the Centerpointe Institute and one of the featured “teachers” in “The Secret” has written two lengthy (but well worth of your time!) statements in his blog to clear up a few things about the so-called “Secret”, his role in it, and the misleading flaws of this simplistic way of thinking. I do not agree with him in many points (he is no magician, obviously…) – but he got some good ones. Read his insights and thoughts over there, and some more clarifications in the second article.

Stay hungry, stay foolish. Learn, play, create – and be well! :)
